Expensive rugs and runners
While rugs are a great way of injecting style and colour into a space, they simply don’t belong in a kitchen. Not only are they a trip hazard that can prove especially dangerous in a kitchen environment where heat and sharp tools are commonly found, but they are likely to become grubby and stained quickly and often, meaning you need to clean them frequently to prevent them from becoming an eyesore.
If you really must have a rug or runner in your luxury kitchen, opt for ones with durability and practicality in mind.
Artificial things
Faux greenery and fake fruit will always look out of place in a luxury kitchen. Not only do they usually look fake (and if you’ve got a luxury kitchen, you can surely afford to spend a few quid on real plants and fruits!), but they’ll also be magnets for dust and grease, and unless you make time to clean them every day, they’ll quickly bring down the luxurious tone of your kitchen.
Display a beautiful bowl of real fruit (choose fruits you’ll actually eat so as to avoid wastage) and add a couple of easy-to-care-for succulents.
Scented items
Kitchens are often fragrant with the aromas of different foods being cooked and consumed, and when you start adding scented candles and reed diffusers into the equation, it can all get a bit overwhelming for the nostrils! Keep such items for other rooms in the home, such as the living room, bathroom or bedroom.
The dog’s bed
You might want to keep your dog out of the living room, and putting their bed or crate in the kitchen may seem like the best solution. However, while Fido might well enjoy being in the heart of the home (and within sniffing distance of the fridge and oven!), it really isn’t sanitary to keep pets in such a space, and they often present a tripping hazard.
Televisions
Kitchens should be spaces that focus on bringing people together, and enjoying good company, good food, and good wine. Having a TV in the kitchen will simply detract from that, and before you know it, your kids are shovelling food into their mouths without even looking at their plates while they catch up on the latest episodes of their favourite TV shows – no thank you!
Junk drawers
While we all have drawers in which our odds and ends go (and all those things we can’t decide whether we really need or not), it’s best not to have one in a luxury kitchen. Luxury kitchens are all about clean lines and elegance, and junk does not feature in that!
Curios and knickknacks
